You will be met at the airport by our Him Ganga Treks representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. Rest at the hotel and briefing about the trip. There should be time to explore the city’s many charms on your own too. Overnight (O/N) in Kathmandu (breakfast included).
We leave Kathmandu by the road heading west, before going up the broad valley of Trisuli to the north, to arrive at the big village of the same name. On a clear day, the panorama is superb: on our left the Annapurna II, the Manaslu and, in front of us, the massif of Ganesh Himal. Then we go up by a winding road to Shyabru Bensi with a stop at Kalikhastan, entry point into Langtang National Park.
After breakfast, we begin our trek to Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend simultaneously through oak and rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola (small river), we ascend on a steep trail which will lead us to the Lama Hotel. Overnight in Lama Hotel.
We follow the bed of the glacial river and soon admire the summit of Langtang Lirung (7250 m) the highest point of the Langtang Massif, whose imposing south face dominates the valley. Out of the forest, the valley widens gradually. Past the hamlet of Godhe Tabela, we begin a steep but steady climb to reach the high glacial valley. Along the way, prayer wheels, Tibetan flags and mani (sacred stones engraved) remind us of Tibet, which is here nearby. We arrive at the place where the village of Langtang stood, which now gives way to a gigantic scree (the earthquake of 2015 triggered a huge avalanche of stone and ice on the village, killing more than 200 people on the stroke…). We arrive then at Mundu, at 3550 m of altitude.
We start a short, but very beautiful day of trekking through the high altitude pastures of Upper Langtang, to reach Kyanging Gompa, the last village in the valley. We meet the first herds of yaks at the foot of the peaks, whose milk is used for cheese making. We are ideally located to admire the great peaks that dominate the valley: Langtang Lirung (7246 m), Naya Kang (5844 m), Ganchenpo (6387 m) …
Day dedicated to the optional ascent of one of the two belvederes overlooking Kyanjin Gompa. The Kyanjin Ri is the most popular belvedere, in the immediate vicinity of the village. The Tsergo Ri is an equivalent option, further and higher. No technical difficulty on these climbs, except altitude and passages that can impress people sensitive to vertigo. From the top, the Tibetan prayer flags flutter in the wind, under the gaze of ice giants that surround us … Return to Kyanjin and end of free day.
NB Those who wish can stay in Kyanjin, or go for a walk in the surrounding pastures.
Today we go back and admire the valley of Langtang from another angle, with panoramas that our eyes never tire of. We descend to Lama Hotel and its lush forest.
We continue the descent into the rain forest to the village of Bamboo. From there, by a path weaving between terraced crops, we go up the mountain to arrive at the charming Tamang village of Thulo Syabru, whose entrance is marked by a white chorten (Buddhist stupa). We appreciate the beautiful views of the rice fields and the Ganesh Himal massif, whose evocative name of the Hindu god Ganesh comes from the resemblance of the summit Pabil (Ganesh IV) with an elephant .
Two hours walking in the alpine forest, rhododendron forest. We cross one small village. We can see white monkeys on the way and then 2 hrs road to Dunche.
After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu.
Free day. Enjoy this day out and wander through the city center, or visit the cultural sites. Marvel at Shree Bouddhanath, a stupa 36 meters high, in the Tibetan quarter of the Nepalese capital. Discover Pashupatinath, Hindu holy site dedicated to Shiva, one of the four highest places of pilgrimage in Asia. Nestled in the center of old Kathmandu, Durbar Square never fails to captivate the visitor with its fine wood carvings and rich history. Explore the vibrant district of Thamel, and its colorful bazaars, ideal for your last shopping. In the Kathmandu Valley, the traditional village of Bhaktapur will amaze you with its 17th century architecture.
